Boeing: Huge need for aviation workers in Asia over next 20 years
Boeing Co. said the Asia Pacific region will need more than 182,000 pilots and 247,000 technicians in the next 20 years.
The aerospace giant (NYSE: BA) said China specifically will need more than 72,000 pilots and more than 108,000 technicians by 2031. Boeing employs 1,700 workers at its Gresham plant.
“The demand for aviation personnel is evident today. In Asia we’re already beginning to see some delays and operational disruptions due to a shortage of pilots,” said Roei Ganzarski, chief customer officer, Boeing Flight Services, in a statement.
The pilots and technicians will be required to support airline fleet modernization and the rapid growth of air travel, Boeing said.
Earlier this month, China will need 5,000 new planes worth $600 billion in the next 20 years. That’s a 15 percent increase in demand over what Boeing predicted last year that China would need.
